Lately the media, government and apparently average aussies are getting annoyed with large salaries for senior management of big business. I honestly don't get the logic behind thier outrage when there are two other sections ofthe community which deserve anger and outrage much more.
A company sells a product, and if it's a successful product the company will make money; if the CEO is good at what s/he does and steer the company correctly the company will make alot of money from those successful products. The board of a company are ultimately responsible for the future of not only the company but the invested money of shareholders and most importantly their employees. If a company can afford through their own success to reward its board members with multi million dollar salaries that is their business, the board do earn it.
The government however get paid by tax payers, yet senior politians are payed in excess. 100's of 1000's of tax dollars each, per year and they pay themselves these salaries while cutting funding to public services used and funded by tax payers. When there are budget cuts it's never their salaries which take a hit, if anything they only rise, it's things the community needs and wants which are sacrificed. How is it they can be allowed to spend our money, money WE worked for and earnt, however they want and set their own salaries. And not only do we fund the livelihood of current politians but of those from the past aswell. Millions of tax payer dollars paid to ex-politians, how does that make sense? When you quit your job or retire, does your previous employer still pay you money?
The lastly there is the media, those whom claim to fight for our right to know, yet they only tell us what they want us to hear, what will get us listening or reading. They make millions by exploiting our pain and misfortune. Aussies lose their jobs and the media make a mint by covering it. It's a sad fact but the media is a business, they report to you only the things which will make them money. Even free newspapers are out to turn a profit.
Before passing judgement on senior management of big business, think about what they had to do to get their jobs, the work, effort and hours that go into every day of their lives.
